Morgan men cruise past Florida A&M
Hampton men edge Coppin St.
Tiwian Kendley scored 24 points to lead the visiting Morgan State men’s basketball team to a 74-48 win over Florida A&Mon Monday night.
David Syfax had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Stanley Davis added 13 points for the Bears (9-15, 5-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who shot 51.7 percent from the field.
The Rattlers (5-22, 4-7) made just five field goals in the first half and finished shooting 31.1 percent.
HAMPTON 82, COPPIN STATE 79: Jermaine Marrow scored 23 points, Malique Trent-Street added 20 with four 3-pointers in the second half and the visiting Pirates (13-14, 8-4 MEAC) beat the Eagles.
Coppin State, which led for 34-plus minutes, had a 61-47 advantage with 11:28 to go but was outscored 19-9 in the final six minutes.
Lamar Morgan, averaging 12 points per game, scored a career-high 30 points with eight 3-pointers for Coppin State (5-22, 5-7). He also had nine rebounds. Andrews-Fulton and Adam Traore each added14 points and Lucian Brownlee had 10.
HOWARD 84, UMES 56: Charles Williams scored 28 points, RJ Cole had 18 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals and the host Bison (7-19, 4-6 MEAC) used three big first-half runs to pull away from the Hawks.
UMES (6-20, 2-9) trimmed its deficit to 13 points before Howard scored 21 of the final 27 points. The Hawks finished shooting 27.5 percent (19 of 69), including 2-for-23 from 3-point range.
Women
UMES 83, HOWARD 79: Ciani Byrom scored 24 points and hit four 3-pointers to lead the visiting Hawks (8-16, 5-7 MEAC) over the Bison (10-14, 6-5).
Jordyn Smith (Towson University) had 15 points and 14 rebounds, Torri Morris added 14 points and Keyera Eaton chipped in 13 for UMES.
HAMPTON 83, COPPIN STATE 48: Jephany Brown scored 20 points and the visiting Pirates (12-13, 8-4 MEAC) shot 45.5 percent from the field to rout the Eagles (6-18, 5-7).
Maraiyah Smith scored 14 points and Oluwadamilola Oloyede had12 points and12 rebounds for Coppin State.
SACRED HEART 56, MOUNT ST. MARY’S 44: Erin Storck scored 16 points to lift the host Pioneers (9-15, 5-8 Northeast Conference) over the Mountaineers (8-16, 5-8).
Katrice Dickson scored18 points on 6-for-10 shooting and Daly Sullivan added 15 for Mount St. Mary’s.
