Savage lifts Patriots girls over Pallotti

No. 6 John Carroll wins, 57-56, on late free throws

Myah Savage made two free throws with seven seconds left to lift the No. 6 John Carroll girls basketball team to a 57-56 victory over visiting St. Vincent Pallotti on Tuesday in an Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n of Maryland A Conference quarterfin­al game.

The Patriots (16-7) were without Kansas State-bound Savannah Simmons, who missed the past four games and will be out for the rest of the season with a broken wrist.

“I didn’t expect to win by one point,” said John Carroll coach Craig Simmons, father of Savannah. “I thought we’d have a much more comfortabl­e lead.”

The Patriots trailed in the first half and their largest lead, three points, came in the third quarter. The Panthers (12-14) were down 55-53 with one minute left to play and made a 3-pointer for a 56-55 lead. John Carroll turned the ball over, but recovered and Savage drew a foul for the winning free throws.

Jordan Wakefield led the Patriots with 21 points. John Carroll will play at top-seed St. Frances on Thursday in the semifinals at 6 p.m.

MOUNTDESAL­ES 49, MOUNTCARME­L 46, OT: The host Sailors (18-7) outscored the Cougars (10-16) 9-6 in overtime to win an IAAM B Conference quarterfin­al.

In overtime, Sydney Skalstad scored five points and Kristen Zaranski scored four of her team-high 13 points for Mount de Sales, which faces host St. John’s Catholic Prep in Thursday’s semifinal at 5 p.m.

NO. 13 PIKESVILLE 69, DULANEY 57: Charia Roberts had 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead the visiting Panthers (18-1) past the Lions.

Pikesville will face No. 4 Catonsvill­e in the Baltimore County championsh­ip next week.

Boys

OAKLAND MILLS 70, NO. 9 RIVER HILL 65: Luke Champion scored a game-high 23 points, but the visiting Hawks (17-3) were upset by the Scorpions (14-6).

Oakland Mills was led by Mister Hairston (17 points), Harrison Greggs (15 points) and Ke’von Simpson (14 points).

The Scorpions went on a 20-9 run in the fourth quarter to win.

BEN FRANKLIN 53, NEW ERA 35: Travis Jordan scored14 points and Cameron Miller had 11 points and 16 rebounds to lead the visiting Bayhawks (13-7) past the Dragons (5-9).

LAKE CLIFTON 62, DIGITAL HARBOR 55: Armon Harried scored 15 points and the visiting Lakers (16-5) held off two late rallies by the Rams (12-8) to win.
