Blast’s win streak halted, but team clinches division

The Blast had their nine-game win streak halted Friday night by host Cedar Rapids, 6-5. But the Blast still managed to secure the Eastern Division title of the Major Arena Soccer League because Florida lost to San Diego. Vini Dantas had one goal and two assists for Baltimore. Blast goalkeeper Joey Kapinos had six saves. The Blast play tonight at 8:05 in Milwaukee against the Wave. WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Danielle Durjan scored 20 points, but Towson (9-16, 4-10 Colonial Athletic Associaito­n) lost 79-71 to host Northeaste­rn (13-12, 8-6). MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: No. 1 Duke (4-0) went on a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to win15-12 over No. 3 Denver (1-1). Justin Guterding had three goals and three assists and Joe Robertson had four goals for the host Blue Devils. Roger Federer, 36, will leapfrog 31-year-old Rafael Nadal to No. 1 when the rankings are updated Monday. Federer sealed a return to the top by winning his quarterfin­al at the ABN AMRO World Tournament in Rotterdam. Beating Robin Haase 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 means Federer will become the oldest man to top the world rankings, surpassing Andre Agassi, who held the record at 33.
