Woodlawn locks up spot in title game
Warriors to meet Dundalk in Baltimore County final; Chesapeake-AA girls prevail
Demauri Warren scored 21 points and No. 8 Woodlawn won 89-50 over Randallstown in boys basketball Friday night.
The Warriors (19-3 ,11-0 Balitmore County) needed to win to avoid a three-way tie with No. 10 Perry Hall (17-6, 10-1) and the Rams (15-6, 10-2). Woodlawn will face Dundalk in the Baltimore County Championship Tuesday at 7 p.m. at SECU Arena.
The Warriors suffered a setback on Wednesday when they lost 72-69 to Dulaney. The experience turned into a motivator for the team.
“Of course you want to win all the games, but that loss allowed us to refocus,” Woodlawn coach Bobby Richardson said.
The Warriors average about 70 points per game according to Richardson and have won by over a 100 points this season. They beat Overlea, 105-81, on Jan. 5.
NO. 13 SEVERN 58, ST. MARY’S 32: LJ Owenes scored a game-high 29 points to lead the host Admirals (24-5, 13-3 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference) past the Saints (4-19, 2-13).
NO. 15 INDIAN CREEK 79, FRIENDS 55: Jordan Lewis and three teammates scored in double figures as the Eagles (19-3, 13-3 MIAA B Conference) downed the host Quakers (2-21, 0-16).
Lewis scored 17 points while Khalil Williams had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Khiyon Washington had 13 points and eight assists, and Malik McKinney added 10 points for the Eagles.
The Eagles earned a bye in the Tuesday’s first round of the conference tournament.
MEADE 70, CHESAPEAKE-AA 30: Tyler Jiles had 13 points and Anthony May added 12 rebounds and six blocks for the host Mustangs (16-6), who have won at least 16 games in each of the last six seasons. Kahleem Jennings added six points and six steals for Meade.
Girls
NO. 15 CHESAPEAKE-AA 68, MEADE 66: Morgan Gray got an offensive rebound and a putback at the buzzer to lift the visiting Cougars (17-5) over the Mustangs (13-9).
Brooke Worrell finished with a careerhigh 38 points for Chesapeake.
NO. 12 SOUTH RIVER 51, SOUTHERN 36: Ashlynn Burrows had a game-high17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Megan Curtner provided nine points and six boards as the Seahawks (20-2) beat the Bulldogs (6-14) in a tuneup game for Wednesday’s county championship contest. Paris Plummer added eight points and five steals for South River.
CENTURY 61, OWINGS MILLS 24: Kelsey Weishaar scored a game-high 29 points and the host Knights (7-15) beat the Eagles (0-16).
“We have a variation of age on our team and I think it took a little bit to adjust and we needed to see how each other played and I think we started working things out toward the end of the season,” Weishaar said.
