Former Ravens linebacker McPhee released by Bears
Three years after leaving the Ravens and signing a five-year, $38.75 million deal with the Chicago Bears, outside linebacker Pernell McPhee is again looking for a new NFL home. McPhee, 29, was released by the Bears after two seasons in which he struggled with injuries. The move was expected as the pass rusher was due to make a $7.2 million salary in 2018 and the Bears are committing to younger players. In three seasons with Chicago, McPhee had 75 tackles, 14 sacks, three forced fumbles and one interception. However, he was hampered by persistent knee problems. McPhee missed 12 games over the past three seasons in Chicago. LACROSSE FUNDRAISER: CCBC Essex has partnered with Lace up with LAX and will hold a fundraiser March 20 during its men’s and women’s games to collect new children’s shoes to be donated to Eastern Family Resource Center, a homeless shelter and transitional housing facility in Baltimore County. Commissioner Roger Goodell plans to fine Cowboys owner Jerry Jones millions of dollars for conduct detrimental to the NFL, the New York Times reported. The root of the discipline was Jones’ challenging of Goodell’s contract extension and public opposition to the six-game suspension for Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. ... The Vikings reportedly will not use the franchise tag on free agent QB Case Keenum, who helped lead the team to the NFC championship game. ... The Bears released S Quintin Demps. ... Police said Jets LB Dylan Donahue was drunk when he drove the wrong way in the Lincoln Tunnel and collided with a jitney bus, injuring four people in Weehawken, N.J.
The Davis Cup is set to be transformed into a one-week, 18-nation World Cup of Tennis in a major overhaul of the event. The International Tennis Federation unanimously endorsed a proposal to create the event starting in November 2019. ... The French Tennis Federation has opted for a clay court when it hosts the U.S. in the Fed Cup semifinals in April.
