Forecast causes Laurel to shift racing card

Heavy rain and high winds from Winter Storm Riley, expected to hit the East Coast, have led the Maryland Jockey Club to postpone today’s live racing at Laurel Park. Today’s entire nine-race program will be run, as carded, Monday. Post time will be 12:30 p.m. Laurel will remain open today for simulcasti­ng. The forecast calls for an 80 percent chance of rain with 25 to 30 mph winds and gusts of up to 50 mph. Saturday’s nine-race program is not expected to be affected by the weather. There will be a jackpot carryover of $20,931.91 in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 that begins with Race 4. HANDICAPPI­NG CONTEST: The Maryland Jockey Club is hosting its spring session of the Champions Handicappi­ng Tournament on Saturday at Laurel Park. Berths to the NTRA/DRF National Handicappi­ng Championsh­ip, Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge and Big One tournament­s are on the line, as well as guaranteed prize money to the top 10 finishers. A maximum of two entries per person will be accepted at a cost of $300 each, covering the $100 entry fee and $200 bankroll. The Champions Tournament will be capped at 300 entries. The tournament winner will have their choice of one of two berths to the NHCor a berth in the BCBC or Big One. The second-place finisher has the choice of one of the remaining three berths, the third-place finisher has the choice of the final two berths and the fourth-place finisher will receive the remaining berth.
