Robert J. Neubauer, retired attorney

Robert Joseph Neubauer, a retired attorney, died Feb. 26 at the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville of coronary artery disease. The former Ellicott City and Ocean Pines resident was 97.

Born in Baltimore, he was the son of Clarence G. Neubauer Sr., a pharmacist who later owned a hardware store, and his wife, Mary B. Holland, a secretary for State Sen. Orlando Harrison.

After his graduation from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Mr. Neubauer served in the Army Air Forces. He obtained a degree at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1948.

Mr. Neubauer entered into a law practice with his uncle, John J. Neubauer Jr. They worked in offices in the former Keyser Building on Redwood Street in downtown Baltimore. After his uncle’s death, he moved to the World Trade Center for 10 years before his retirement in 1984.

Mr. Neubauer was a past member of the Baltimore, Maryland and American bar associations.

He and his wife, Annette Rowe, a Goucher College graduate, traveled to Europe and vacationed in the Caribbean. They lived in Howard County for many years before moving to Ocean Pines. He moved to Charlestown in 2008.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. today at Our Lady of Angels Roman Catholic Church at the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville.

Survivors include a son, David R. Neubauer; three daughters, Susan A. Simmons, Martha N. Foley and Annette L. Katz; a sister, Gloria Bailey; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. His wife of 62 years died in 2004.
