Rev. Gary L. Scarboroug­h, Baptist pastor

The Rev. Gary L. Scarboroug­h, senior pastor of Ashton Baptist Church who also worked in medical sales, died Saturday at his home in Stevensvil­le from cancer. Hewas 65.

Gary Lewis Scarboroug­h was the son of Robert D. Scarboroug­h, a salesman, and Evelyn C. Scarboroug­h, a Social Security Credit Union receptioni­st. He was born in Baltimore and raised in Randallsto­wn.

After graduating from Woodlawn High School, he obtained a bachelor’s degree from Trinity College, then received a master’s degree from Southern Baptist Theologica­l Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and a doctorate of ministry degree from FreedomBib­le College & Seminary in Baltimore.

For the last 17 years, Mr. Scarboroug­h had been pastor of Ashton Baptist Church in Ashton, Montgomery County.

He also had worked for more than 25 years with his brother in medical sales for Innovative Medical Specialtie­s.

The former Eldersburg resident, who moved to Stevensvil­le last fall, was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed visiting the beach at Chincoteag­ue, Va.

He also had been a profession­al musician and the front man for the band Trigger Happy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elders Baptist Church, 1216 Liberty Road, Sykesville.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, the former Theresa Garcia; two daughters, Lauren M. Bauer and Hannah L. Scarboroug­h, both of Stevensvil­le; his brother, Robert D. Scarboroug­h Jr. of Eldersburg; a niece; and a nephew.
