Baltimore joins bid for 2026 World Cup

Baltimore has been included as a host city in the United Bid of Canada, Mexico and the United States to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The United Bid announced its list of 23 candidate host cities that will be included in the bid book. Baltimore, which would use M&T Bank Stadium for games, joins three cities in Mexico, three in Canada and Atlanta, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Tenn., New York/New Jersey, Orlando, Fla., Philadelph­ia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington. Chicago and Minneapoli­s dropped out of the North American bid to host the 2026 World Cup because of what city officials said were burdensome financial demands by FIFA. Twenty-three cities, including 17 in the U.S., were chosen to be included in bid documents to be submitted to FIFA on Friday. Morocco also is bidding, and the 207 other FIFA members are scheduled to make the decision June 13. ...
