Oakland Mills baseball to honor late player

Oakland Mills baseball will honor the late student-athlete Larry Aaron III in its season opener Friday at 4 p.m. against Meade. On sale will be Scorpions baseball T-shirts for $15 and hats with “Larry” stitched onto the back for $20. All proceeds will go to the Aaron family, who will be in attendance. Aaron’s father, Larry Aaron Jr., will be throwing out the first pitch. Aaron, a 2016 Oakland Mills graduate who played football, basketball and baseball, died Feb. 22 from complicati­ons after being shot at a New Year’s Eve party in Severn. He was 19. Aaron had recently finished his redshirt freshman season at Marshall and was back at home for winter break when the incident occurred. He was struck by stray gunfire, which left him paralyzed from the waist down. MEN’S RESULTS: Connor Fields scored five goals to lead No. 1 Albany (7-0) to a 19-11 victory over visiting Canisius (3-3). The Great Danes went on a 9-0 run in the second quarter. ... Cameron Stafford had a hat trick and Alex Rode (St. Paul’s) made eight saves as No. 10 Virginia (7-2) won 12-6 over visiting Dartmouth (2-4). ... Andrew Pettit had a hat trick to lead No. 12 Lehigh (7-2) to a13-8 victory over No. 19 Hofstra (4-3). The visiting Mount Hawks outscored the Pride, 8-4, in the second half. ... Simon Mathias assisted on the game-tying goal and scored the game-winner to lift No. 16 Penn (5-3) to a 9-8 come-from-behind victory over visiting Bucknell (5-3). WOMEN’S RESULTS: Sam Apuzzo had four goals to lead No. 2 Boston College (11-0) to a 13-9 victory over host Yale (6-2). .. Emily Hawryschuk scored a game-high five goals to lead No. 9 Syracuse (6-2) to a 14-7 win over host Cornell (4-3).
