The Sun’s McCabe firing hypocrisy

The Baltimore Sun’s editorial board shows yet again its liberal bias in the editorial, “McCabe firing: Witness Intimidation?” (March 19), criticizing President Donald Trump's reaction to the firing of FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe. Of course, The Sun uses its pulpit to again attack conservative Fox News and its "talking-head-concocted conspiracy theories." The Sun joins a long list of media liberals appalled that there is actually a conservative TV network that counters their leftist orthodoxy, incensed that their liberal platform is not the one and only voice Americans hear.

The editorial gives a full paragraph to Mr. McCabe's self-serving defense and a halfhearted hypothetical of "let's say Mr. McCabe did make some mistakes.” Really, are "unauthorized disclosures to the media" and a lack of candor "under oath on multiple occasions" per Attorney General Jeff Sessions just minor mistakes? Mr. Sessions also announced the decision to terminate Mr. McCabe came on recommendations of both the Justice Department Inspector General and FBI office that handles FBI discipline. Guess these facts didn't fit their editorial prerogative!

Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, told CNN’s Michael Smerconish that he wasn’t surprised at all that Mr. McCabe was fired. Professor Turley said he actually expected it a lot sooner. He said the firing seemed “justified” and that Mr. McCabe should be thankful he isn’t facing criminal charges. Mr. Turley notes that Mr. McCabe said he conferred with James Comey before prematurely releasing information to the press. Either Mr. Comey or Mr. McCabe is telling the truth — or perhaps neither — yet the editorial puts a positive spin on both men. Then again, facts and statements such as this and the appalling and illegal behavior of both Mr. McCabe and Mr. Comey will never find their way into a Sun editorial. They would just get in the way of their never ending trashing of President Trump and Fox News.
