Mount Saint Joseph’s Feustle shuts out McDonogh for 11-0 win

Connor Feustle pitched a shutout to lead visiting Mount Saint Joseph to an 11-0 victory over McDonogh in baseball Wednesday.

The Gaels improved to 2-1, 2-1 Maryland Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n A Conference and the Eagles fell to 5-4, 0-3.

Feustle singled in the first and scored off a two-run homer by Justin Looney. Feustle also hit a triple in the sixth inning. He gave up five hits over six innings.

Mount Saint Joseph scored three runs in the second inning, two in the fifth and four in the sixth inning.

OLD MILL 9, KENT ISLAND 5: Ian Adams went 2 for 4, while Hunter McKean and Markus Thompson each had two-run singles in a decisive six-run first as the host Patriots (3-0) took a big early lead and held on late to beat the Buccaneers (0-3).

“Last season, we were so senior heavy, so we saw this coming,” Old Mill coach Charlie Chaffin said. “However, a lot of these guys were sophomores on varsity last season, so we cannot fall back and say that these guys are inexperien­ced, because they are not.”

NO. 1 MCDONOGH17, MOUNT DE SALES 1: Izzy Marsh and Maryland-bound Julia Hoffman each had a hat trick and the host Eagles (5-0, 2-0 Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n of Maryland A Conference) cruised past the Sailors (2-4, 0-4). McDonogh’s winning streak improved to 182 games.

The Eagles opened with a 3-0 run before Mount de Sales scored with 18:10 left in the first half.

NO. 10 BRYN MAWR 10, NO. 13 MARYVALE 8: UMBC-bound Sophie Shucosky made six saves, but the visiting Lions (3-1, 2-1 IAAM A Conference) fell to the Mawrtians (5-0, 4-0).

NO. 14 ST. PAUL’S 8, JOHN CARROLL 5: Alex Pirisino had a hat trick and Christina Gagnon had two goals to lead the host Gators (2-0, 2-0 IAAM A Conference) past the Patriots (2-2, 1-2). St. Paul’s led 5-2 at the half.

ST. MARY’S 18, GARRISON FOREST 8: Julianna Sanchez scored a game-high six goals to lead the host Saints (3-2, 2-1IAAMA Conference) past the Grizzlies (1-4, 0-4). St. Mary’s led 10-4 at the half.

WINTERS MILL 13, GERSTELL ACADEMY11: Kaitlyn Thompson had four goals and two draw controls to help host Winters Mill (1-0) beat Gerstell (0-2). Winters Mill led 9-7 at the half.

“I try to give 100 percent all the time,” Thompson said.
