Hensh gets Maryland rolling against Hoyas
Freshmen help to power Loyola in rout of American
Taylor Hensh started a 6-0 run in the first half and No. 3 Maryland beat visiting Georgetown, 17-5, Wednesday night in women’s lacrosse.
The Terps improved to 9-1 and the Hoyas fell to 5-4.
Hensh (Marriotts Ridge) broke a 2-2 tie with 15:52 left in the first half. Maryland’s Kali Hartshorn and Caroline Steele (Severn) each finished with a game-high four goals.
NO. 7 LOYOLA MARYLAND 22, AMERICAN 3: Freshman Bridget Ballard led 12 Greyhounds in scoring, contributing a personal-best five goals, as host Loyola (7-2, 3-0 Patriot League) beat the Eagles (3-8, 0-3).
Freshman Elli Kluegel also contributed a hat trick for the Greyhounds while senior Hannah Savage led all players with four assists. Junior Hannah Powers (1 goal, 3 assists), freshman Livy Rosenzweig (2g, 2a) and freshman Liz Scott (1g, 3a) each tacked on four points, while junior Sabrina Tabasso had three points on two goals and one assist.
UMBC 13, SIENA 3: Carolyn Jamison (Westminster) and Caitlin Miller each scored three goals to lead the host Retrievers (8-3) past the Saints (4-5). UMBC opened with a 5-0 run and led 9-1 at the half. Kelsey Major (Liberty) made11saves for the Retrievers.
SALISBURY 15, FRANKLIN & MARSHALL 4: Courtney Fegan (South River) had four goals to lead the host Sea Gulls (10-0) past the Diplomats (6-3). Salisbury went on a 10-1 run in the second half to pull away.
State men
SALISBURY 25, WESLEY3: The host Sea Gulls (7-3, 1-1 Capital Athletic Conference) opened with a 9-0 run and routed the Wolverines (2-6, 0-1).
Salisbury was led by Pierre Armstrong with three goals and four assists. Other three-goal scorers included: Jarrett Bromwell, Corey Gwin and Josh Melton.
Nation men
NO. 1 ALBANY 14, NO. 19 HARVARD 6: Troy Reh and Kyle McClancy each had a hat trick to lead the host Great Danes (9-0) past the Crimson (7-2).
The loss ended a six-game winning streak for Harvard.
Nation women
NO. 4 JAMES MADISON 15, UC DAVIS 5: The host Dukes (9-1) built an 11-3 first-half lead and cruised past the Aggies (4-4). Katie Checkosky, Halley Duenkel, Daria Lucchesi and Haley Warden all had two goals for James Madison.
NO. 5 NORTH CAROLINA 13, NO. 17 VIRGINIA TECH 12: Olivia Ferrucci scored twice over the final two minutes to lift the host Tar Heels (7-3, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) over the Hokies (9-4, 2-1). She scored the tying goal with 1:57 left and the winning goal with 1:26 left in the game.
NO. 10 VIRGINIA 18, CANISIUS 8: Avery Shoemaker and Megan Plain each scored three goals to lead the host Cavaliers (8-2) past the Golden Griffins (4-5).
