Siena’s Patsos defends self against abuse allegation­s

Embattled Siena men’s basketball coach Jimmy Patsos defended himself Friday against recent allegation­s that he verbally abused a team manager and denied any knowledge of withholdin­g per diem payments to his players. “I never taunted, harassed or abuse this young man, nor did my coaches or players create a hostile environmen­t for him,” Patsos said. “We did know he had OCD [obsessive compulsive disorder] … He was adamant that he wanted to be treated the same as everyone else.” At a news conference called by Patsos and his attorney, Dick Walsh, near the upstate New York campus, the former Loyola Maryland coach and longtime Maryland assistant said that had a good relationsh­ip with the manager and his family and was “greatly surprised” by the complaint filed with the university. UFC star Conor McGregor was arraigned on charges of felony criminal mischief charges and misdemeano­r assault, menacing and reckless endangerme­nt charges following a backstage melee he sparked at a UFC event in New York. McGregor was released on $50,000 bond. He is due back in court June 14. ... Panthers veteran LB Thomas Davis said he has been suspended four games by the league for testing positive for a banned substance. Davis posted a video on his Twitter account acknowledg­ing he tested positive for an estrogen blocker but said “in no way would I ever do anything to cheat this game.” ...
