AROUND THE HORN

-

Royals: OF Alex Gordon, who is hitting just .174 through his first seven games, went on the disabled list with a torn hip labrum. The three-time All-Star woke up with pain Monday and was examined in greater detail Tuesday, and results showed that an old tear he’d been playing through had worsened. Royals manager Ned Yost is hopeful Gordon’s recovery time will be 10 days to two weeks, and surgery is not being considered at this point, but the team wants to see how Gordon responds over the next week.

Blue Jays: 1B Kendrys Morales was placed on the 10-day DL with a strained right hamstring. The injury occurred Monday while Morales was running out a single in the second inning against the Orioles. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons expects Morales to return after the minimum stay on the DL.

Tigers: Pitching coach Chris Bosio missed Tuesday’s game in Cleveland because of a health issue. Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said Bosio, who didn’t feel well Monday, underwent tests Tuesday, but Gardenhire didn’t know any other details.

Dodgers: Commissioner Rob Manfred will hold a news conference Wednesday at Dodger Stadium, reportedly to announce it as the site for the 2020 All-Star Game. Dodger Stadium last hosted the game in 1980, when four Dodgers — Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes, Bill Russell and Reggie Smith — were in the starting lineup for the National League.

Cardinals: C Yadier Molina received a one-game suspension for bumping umpire Tim Timmons during a bench-clearing dispute Sunday against the Diamondbacks. Molina has appealed the penalty and will continue to play until the process is complete.

Diamondbacks: Manager Torey Lovullo missed the Diamondbacks’ game in San Francisco to serve a one-game suspension for his role in Sunday’s on-field dispute with the Cardinals. He was also given a fine.
