Maddie Jenner won 15 draws to spark the No. 1 McDonogh girls lacrosse team to a 15-10 victory at No. 14 St. Mary’s on Wednesday for the Eagles’ 187th straight victory exactly nine years after their last loss.

In the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference game, the Saints tried three players against Jenner, last season’s AllMetro Player of the Year, with limited success. Jenner excels at drawing the ball to herself and, at 6 feet 2, she can outreach almost all opponents. The Eagles won17 of 27 draws.

“Maddie Jenner is a phenomenal draw specialist,” St. Mary’s coach Mindy Jones said. “You try to do your best, you try to switch it up, and she’s got a big presence and it’s just hard to win that draw. We did come up with a few and we got 10 goals, so that just goes to show you how big draw controls are.”

Jenner controlled 10 in the first half and it took the Eagles just 13 seconds to score off the first one as Blair Pearre assisted Emma Schettig.

The Saints were within two midway through the first half before Jenner won three straight draws and the Eagles ran their lead to 8-3 on two goals from Pearre, who finished with four, and one from Julia Hoffman.

Whitney Albert, who scored five goals for the Saints, cut the lead to 8-4 going into the half, but St. Mary’s (6-3, 3-2 conference) would get no closer as Pearre and Schettig scored the first two goals after the break.

The Eagles (10-0, 7-0) have not lost since April 11, 2009, when they fell to Canandaigua (N.Y.), 12-10. They haven’t lost to a Maryland team since falling to John Carroll in the 2008 A Conference championship.
