Asher’s goal in second overtime lifts Bel Air
Bobcats edge C.M. Wright in girls lacrosse; McDonogh wins 188th straight game
Lauren Asher scored the game-winner in double overtime to lift No. 6 Bel Air to a 9-8 victory over No. 13 C. Milton Wright Tuesday night in girls lacrosse.
The host Bobcats improved to 5-1 and the Mustangs fell to 3-1.
Maggie Hall had four goals for Bel Air and Moriah Snyder had a hat trick for C.M. Wright.
NO. 1 MCDONOGH 18, GARRISON FOREST 4: Maddie Jenner had five goals and two assists to lead the visiting Eagles (11-0, 8-0 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference) past the Grizzlies (1-9, 0-7). McDonogh led 16-0 before Garrison Forest scored its first goal with 19 minutes left in the game. The Eagles’ winning streak improved to 188 games.
DULANEY 19, SPARROWS POINT 4: Casey O’Grady had four goals and four assists and Maggie Kelly had four goals to lead the host Lions (4-3) past the Pointers (1-3).
NORTH HARFORD 14, PERRYVILLE 1: Kirsten Gryzbowski scored four goals and Brenna Duley had three goals to lead the host Hawks (3-2) past the Panthers (4-1).
Baseball
NO. 14 NORTH COUNTY15, ANNAPOLIS 2: Austin Stevens went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs as the Knights (7-1) defeated the host Panthers (2-6). Carson Lowman pitched around seven walks to allow one run in five innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win. Lowman also went went 3-for-3. Josh Nevins went 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, Malcolm Gibson and Nick Biddinger each had two hits and two runs scored and Biddinger also drove in a run for North County (7-1).
DULANEY 5, CATONSVILLE 4: Jack Tarantino went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored to lead the host Lions (5-1) past the Comets (4-1).
Softball
NO. 6 ARCHBISHOP SPALDING 12, MOUNT DE SALES 2: Winning pitcher Mackenzie Maenner struck out five and Angela Sena had a home run to lead the host Cavaliers (5-2, 4-0 IAAM A Conference) past the Sailors (1-4, 1-3). Spalding scored eight runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.
The Cavaliers have scored 29 runs against two A conference opponents this week, after Thursday’s 12-2 victory of Mount de Sales at home and six days after taking a 6-2 out-of-conference loss to Sussex Tech.
“Our out-of-conference schedule is really tough. It’s arguably one of the toughest in the state,” Spalding coach Nicole Trumpler said. “We can learn from what we do in those games and apply it to our conference games, as our conference is not getting any easier.”
NO. 14 RIVER HILL 12, SOUTHERN 2: Winning pitcher Annabel McCullough threw a no-hitter for the host Hawks (7-0). The Bulldogs fell to 2-7. McCullough worked five innings and walked three. Two fielding errors resulted in runners on base.
ANNAPOLIS AREA CHRISTIAN 11, MERCY 0, 5 INNINGS: Jayla Pinkney tripled, singled and drove in a run and Lindsay Wilson tossed a two-hit shutout, struck out nine and walked two as the Eagles (4-1, 2-1 IAAM B Conference) finished off the week with 51 runs scored and allowing none by defeating the host Magic (1-3, 1-3).
Julia Cox added a pair of hits and an RBI and Maggie Bickhart also drove in a run for AACS.
