Marriotts Ridge gets over hump in 5-2 win

Defense backs solid pitching for Mustangs; Dulaney pulls off sweep

No. 4 Marriotts Ridge got a quality start from right-hander Buck Olsufka and a dominant relief effort from southpaw Dylan Anagnos en route to a 5-2 victory over host River Hill in baseball on Friday.

The Mustangs (10-2, 9-2 Howard) made routine defensive plays, as well as a few difficult ones, while committing just one error. It built a five-run lead by the fourth inning.

Marriotts Ridge held off the Hawks (7-5, 6-5) to moveinto a four-waytie for first place in the county standings with Howard, Mount Hebon and Reservoir.

NO. 10 DULANEY WINS TWO: The host Lions (10-1) beat Perry Hall (1-9), 13-2, in game one anad18-0, in game two. Danny Beard got the win in game one and Todd Mozoki had a double and a triple in game two for Dulaney.

MOUNT SAINT JOSEPH 6, ST. MARY’S 5, 8 INNINGS: Cullen Dillow drove in the winning run by Luke Hess to lift the host Gaels (8-12, 4-7 MIAA A Conference) over the Saints (8-8, 3-4). St. Mary’s scored four runs in the seventh inning to force an extra inning.

TOWSON 10, LANSDOWNE 0, 6 INNINGS: Winning pitcher Jake Orendorff gave up three hits, walked two and struck out four as the host Generals (5-5) beat the Vikings (5-6).

SEVERN12, GLENELGCOU­NTRY2: Wining pitcher Jimmy Riley went seven innings, gave up two runs on six hits, walked one and struck out four for the visiting Admirals (6-7, 6-6 MIAA B Conference). The Dragons fell to 7-6, 7-4.

Boys lacrosse

NO. 1 MCDONOGH 11, NO. 6 ST. PAUL’S 6: Jack Sweeney had a hat trick and Liam Powderly had a goal and three assists to lead the Eagles (9-4, 5-1Maryland Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n A Conference) past the host Crusaders (5-5, 3-2). McDonogh fell behind 5-4 early in the third quarter before going on a 4-0 run to take charge.

NO. 4 LOYOLA BLAKEFIELD 12, JOHN CARROLL 5: The visiting Dons (11-3, 5-1 MIAA A Conference) topped the Patriots (4-8, 0-4). Loyola Blakefield is tied with No. 1 McDonogh for first place in the A Conference.

NO. 8 SEVERN 12, NO. 7 GILMAN 10: The visiting Admirals (6-5, 3-4 MIAA A Conference) scored three times over the final 5:22 and beat the Greyhounds (5-6, 1-4). Severn trailed 8-3 with eight minutes left in the third quarter before going on a 9-2 run to win. Jack Lilly finished with three goals for the Admirals.

NO. 15 WESTMINSTE­R 20, WINTERS MILL 7: Bubba Love had four goals and an assist to lead the host Owls (9-1) past the Falcons (1-8).

ST. VINCENT PALLOTTI 7, CONCORDIA PREP6: Pat McGinley scored all seven goals to lead the host Panthers (3-4, 3-4 MIAA C Conference) past the Saints (2-11, 1-6).

FRIENDS 12, SAINTS PETER & PAUL 6: Patrick Linehan had five goals to lead the host Quakers (11-1, 6-0 MIAA B Conference) past the Sabres (6-3, 4-2). Friends Dawson Bordick made five saves and Ross Blumenthal had four saves.

Girls lacrosse

CATHOLIC 15, KEY SCHOOL 3: Erika Gabrys and Sarah Morales each scored five goals to lead the Cubs (8-1, 6-1 IAAM C Conference) past the host Obezags(3-5, 3-4).

MOUNT DE SALES 11, SEVERN 8: Mary Blee had a hat trick to lead the host Sailors (6-6, 3-6 IAAM A Conference) past the Admirals (3-11, 1-7). Mount de Sales led 5-3 at the half.
