Hat trick by Hume lifts Loyola in lacrosse

Severn knocks off No. 3 Boys’ Latin; Calvert Hall trips Mount Saint Joseph

Connor Hume had a hat trick and No. 2 Loyola Blakefield won its sixth straight, beating No. 9 Gilman, 10-7, in boys lacrosse Tuesday.

The visiting Greyhounds (5-7, 1-5 Maryland Interschol­astic Athletic Associaton A Conference) tied the game at 6 with two minute left in the third quarter.

The Dons (12-3, 6-1) responded with a 4-1 run that spanned from 41 seconds remaining in the third quarter to 39 seconds left in the game.

NO. 7 SEVERN 8, NO. 3 BOYS’ LATIN 7: The host Admirals (7-6, 4-4 MIAA A Conference) went on a 4-1 run in the third quarter to take control and hold on for the win.

Brendan Grimes had a hat trick for the Lakers (9-4, 4-3).

NO. 4 CALVERT HALL 11, NO. 13 MOUNT SAINT JOSEPH 10: Jack Sawyer had four goals and an assist to lead the visiting Cardinals (10-3, 4-2 MIAA A Conference) past the Gaels (6-6,1-4). Mount Saint Joseph took an early 3-0 lead before Calvert Hall led 5-4 at the half.

“They [the Gaels] did a good job of taking us out of our rhythm,” Cardinals coach Bryan Kelly said. “Then, we made some adjustment­s.”

Calvert Hall played without Jacob Kelly, who was injured in the Boys’ Latin game Friday.

NO. 6 ST. PAUL’S11, NO. 14 ARCHBISHOP SPALDING 6: Troy Barthleme had a hat trick to pace the host Crusaders (6-5, 4-2 MIAA A Conference) past the Cavaliers (7-8, 5-6). St. Paul’s led 6-3 at the half.

GLENELG COUNTRY 13, ST. JOHN’S CATHOLIC PREP 9: Mikey Welsh scored four goals to lead the host Dragons (4-7, 3-5 MIAA B Conference) past the Vikings (4-9, 0-7).
