LACROSSE INSIDER
George Baughan, Princeton
Wyndmoor, Pa., defenseman, freshman The Tigers were left out of the Ivy League tournament despite a 14-8 upset of then-No. 6 Cornell on Saturday, but it does not dismiss what Baughan did. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound rookie caused a game-high four turnovers and scooped up four ground balls. More importantly, Baughan shut out Big Red sophomore attackman Jeff Teat, who took only one shot and turned the ball over five times. The last time Teat — who entered the game leading Division I in points per game (6.7) — finished a game without a point was March 5, 2017, in a 17-6 loss to Albany. Baughan even outscored Teat, lodging his first career goal with 5:38 left in the first quarter to give Princeton a 3-2 lead that it would not relinquish.
Jillian Petito, Mount St. Mary’s
Ocean City, goalie, junior Petito led the Mountaineers to the biggest upset of the season in the Northeast Conference on Sunday. She made 14 saves to lead a stifling defensive performance against Bryant, which owns the NEC’s top scoring offense, for a 12-6 victory. The Bulldogs took a 6-4 lead with 2:22 left in the first half before the Mountaineers shut them out the rest of the way. Petito posted a .700 save percentage against the defending NEC champions. The win gave the Mountaineers (10-6) their first 10-win season since 2007, the last time they won the NEC regular season. Petito, a Stephen Decatur graduate, also made six saves and had three caused turnovers in a 16-5 win over Central Connecticut on Friday.
