Concannon’s late goal sends Johns Hopkins to Big Ten final

Alex Concannon scored the game-winner with 11.3 seconds left and Brock Turnbaugh (Hereford) made a save at the buzzer and No. 7 Johns Hopkins won a 6-5 thriller against No. 13 Ohio State in a Big Ten semifinal in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Thursday.

The Blue Jays will face No. 2 Maryland in Saturday’s league championship at 7 p.m. The last meeting between the two teams went into triple overtime and the Terps won 8-7 on April 28.

Concannon also assisted on the tying goal by Kyle Marr (three goals) with 7:52 left in the game. Hopkins outscored the Buckeyes 3-1 in the second half. Turnbaugh finished with 16 saves.

With the Blue Jays trailing 5-4, Marr scored midway in the fourth quarter to tie the game. An altercation between the two teams in the fourth quarter resulted in ejections.

NO. 2 MARYLAND 12, NO. 11 RUTGERS 9: Redshirt freshman Logan Wisnauskas (Boys’ Latin) had two goals and three assists and the Terps (12-2) beat the Scarlet Knights (9-6) in a Big Ten semifinal in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Wisnauskas has has 31 goals this season, the most for a Maryland freshman since Joe Walters had 33 in 2003. Dan Morris made seven of his 12 saves in the second half for the Terps.

Trailing 5-4 in the second quarter, Maryland used a 3-0 run, including goals from Louis Dubick, Jared Bernhardt and Bubba Fairman, to take a 7-5 halftime lead.

NO. 16 MASSACHUSETTS 10, HOFSTRA 6: Jeff Trainor had two goals and three assists to lead the host Minutemen (11-4) past the Pride (6-8) in a Colonial Athletic Association semifinal.

TOWSON 9, DELAWARE 8, OT: Matt Sovero (Saints Peter & Paul) scored the game-winner to send the host Tigers (7-7) to their fourth-straight Colonial Athletic Association title game in Amherst, Mass.

The Blue Hens fell to 6-8.

Women

BRYANT 9, MOUNT ST. MARY’S 8: Jillian Petito made 13 saves, but the visiting Mountaineers (10-7) were held scoreless for 23 minutes in the second half and fell to the Bulldogs (12-5) in a Northeast Conference semifinal.

The Mount went on a 3-0 run over the final seven minutes, but the rally fell short.

WAGNER 13, ROBERT MORRIS 9: Heidi Colford scored a game-high five goals to lead the host Seahawks (12-5) past the Colonials (9-9) in a Northeast Conference semifinal. Wagner will face Bryant in Saturday’s championship at 1 p.m.
