The Westminster junior midfielder had just helped set up Conner Covey’s gamewinning goal with 2:45 left in overtime to defeat Linganore, 10-9, in the Class 3A West Region final Wednesday night.

Owls junior midfielder Christian Etchison sent a pass to Alec Kozlowski with 2:34 remaining to give the Owls a 9-8 lead, but Linganore wasn’t finished.

Watsic found the back of the net, unassisted, with 39.4 seconds remaining to send the teams to overtime, tied 9-9.

“We said to just not give up and give your all, go all out, sell out,” Buckwalter said. “Christian Etchison set out with a check to save a possible game-winning goal. That went our way and we turned it into scoring.”

“We’re ecstatic,” said junior Anna Ruby. “From the first practice, we set our goals, and this is where we wanted to be. It’s really cool to see us working for that, and reaching even further. I think that we can get that state title.”
