A Severna Park man died Sunday when his boat struck a marker in the Severn River, Natural Resources Police said. Daniel Youngblood, 51, was on his 27-foot fishing boat with two friends Saturday, police spokeswoman Candy Thomson said. On their way back from a boating trip, they struck Marker 13 in the area known as The Narrows going about 30 to 40 mph, Thomson said. The boat was brought into a private pier in Crownsville, where Anne Arundel Fire Department paramedics attempted to save Youngblood, Capt. Russ Davies, a department spokesman, said. Youngblood was declared dead at the scene around 2 a.m. Sunday, Davies said. Police are unsure if Youngblood was driving the boat or where exactly he and his friends were coming from before the crash. Youngblood’s body was taken to the office of the chief medical examiner in Baltimore Sunday. Natural Resources Police are continuing their investigation and awaiting test results from the medical examiner and the state police crime lab. Youngblood is Maryland’s fifth boating fatality this year, Thomson said. Last year, Natural Resources Police tracked nine boating deaths. His death is also one of two serious mishaps on the water reported by Natural Resources Police over the Memorial Day weekend. Two personal watercraft collided Saturday night in the waters off Ocean City, sending a Pennsylvania woman to a Delaware trauma center. She was in critical condition Sunday. The driver of the second watercraft was not injured but was charged with negligent operation.
