Valerie Ervin expects the impossible

- Paula Fargo, Baltimore

In regard to your piece about Valerie Ervin’s name replacing Kevin Kamenetz’s on the ballot for the upcoming gubernatorial primary, I hope all Democratic voters read this carefully and understand the context of Ms. Ervin’s remarks and attitude (“Valerie Ervin threatens to sue after Maryland election board declines to print new ballots,” May 24).

When confronted with the unpleasant fact by the Maryland Board of Elections that her requested updated ballots would be unable to be reprinted in time for the primary due to a lack of available paper, Ms. Ervin’s reaction is to threaten a legal challenge. Does she think that by bullying the state, the paper mill will miraculously be able to provide the paper in time for printers to print hundreds of thousands of new ballots and in the process waste time, effort, resources and money?

In reading your article, it sounds like the board has done everything in its power to remedy Ms. Ervin’s unreasonable complaint. No one could foresee the unfortunate and untimely death of a gubernatorial candidate, much less the board. In my opinion, she should be grateful Mr. Kamenetz’s name is still on the ballot; that’s probably the only chance she’ll have of winning votes — from those who don’t know that he has passed away.

Acandidate like this has no business being elected dog catcher, much less governor. Clearly, she’s missing the forest for the wasting of trees.
