Funeral set for victim of Ellicott City flood

Funeral arrangemen­ts have been set for the Army National Guardsman who was swept away by floodwater­s while attempting to rescue someone in Ellicott City last weekend. The funeral for Staff Sgt. Eddison A. “Eddie” Hermond will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at The Church at Severn Run in Severn. A public visitation will be held a half-hour before the services. Hermond will be buried at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsvill­e. The 39-year-old was trying to help a woman trapped in the flood in the historic downtown when he was swept away by rushing water. His body was found two days later in the Patapsco River in Catonsvill­e. Hermond joined the National Guard in 2009 after serving more than a decade in the Air Force; he was assigned to Camp Fretterd in Reistersto­wn. He had worked at Victoria Restaurant Group in Howard County while he served in the National Guard. He was one of their first employees when they opened Victoria Gastro Pub in Columbia in 2007. He worked his way up to management and helped open Manor Hill Tavern in Old Ellicott City in 2017. The ceremony was moved from the memorial to a nearby garage because of Sunday’s rain. who was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead at 1:26 a.m. It’s unclear how Blevins died, but there was evidence of trauma to his upper body, according to police. An autopsy is expected to determine the cause of death. The county police homicide unit is investigat­ing Blevins’ death. Police ask anyone with informatio­n about the incident to call police at 410-307-2020 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP. said they responded to a report of a stabbing at the 3000 block of Ascension St. about 11:19 p.m. They found Elizabeth Holland with stab wounds. “The victim’s boyfriend told officers that he discovered his girlfriend inside the home and unresponsi­ve suffering from stab wounds,” according to a police news release. Holland was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Homicide detectives investigat­ed the stabbing, and later arrested Holland’s boyfriend, Michael Allen, of the Ascension Street address. He was charged with first-degree murder. An attorney was not listed in online court records.
