George E. Landefeld, BGE representative

George Edward Landefeld, a retired government affairs representative for Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. who was also a musician with a local orchestra, died Saturday at Stella Maris Hospice from an infection. The Mays Chapel resident was 91.

He was born and raised in East Baltimore, the son of Louis Landefeld, a Bethlehem Steel Corp. steelworker, and Helen Landefeld, a homemaker.

He was a graduate of Kenwood High School and enlisted in the Navy in 1944. He served as a seaman first class aboard a destroyer in the Pacific Theater. His decorations included a Purple Heart.

He met his future wife, Marion A. Croghan, at an Ocean City ballroom. They fell in love, and were married in 1951.

Mr. Landefeld joined BGE in 1950, and rose to become a government affairs representative.

He attended night school at what is now Loyola University Maryland, and in 1976 obtained a bachelor’s degree. He retired from BGE in 1989. Mr. Landefeld was a longtime drummer and vocalist with the Carl Hamilton Orchestra, performing under the stage name George Lane.

The former resident of Anneslie and Baldwin had been a grand knight of the Long Green Valley Council of the Knights of Colum- bus He was also an avid golfer. Mr. Landefeld was a communicant of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 100 Church Lane, Cockeysville, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday.

In addition to his wife of 67 years, Mr. Landefeld is survived by three sons, Jeff Landefeld of Northeast Baltimore, Paul Landefeld of Timonium and Kevin Landefeld of Hagerstown; a daughter, Carol Ann Dougherty of Hunt Valley; a sister, Virginia Ray Childres of Hunt Valley; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
