Bears add Woods, ex-Terps McDonogh standout

The Chicago Bears signed former Maryland and McDonogh standout Josh Woods after he took part in a three- day minicamp. Woods, who started at safety last year, will reportedly be switched to linebacker. Woods, 6 feet 1, 204 pounds, earned the attention of NFL teams last season, when in 10 games (nine starts) he had 62 tackles, 4½ tackles for loss, four pass breakups, two intercepti­ons and a forced fumble. BOXING: Shabazz Brotherz Boxing is returning to Martin’s West on June 29 with a card that features the sons of Hasim Rahman and his younger brother. Hasim Rahman is the former lLineal, WBC, IBO, and IBF heavyweigh­t champion and his son Hasim Rahman Jr. (4-0) is a heavyweigh­t contender. Sharif “C3” Rahman (2-0), the younger son of Hasim Rahman, will be returning to the ring after a TKOwin in September 2017. Mushin “The Spartan” Cason (1-0), younger brother of Hasim Rahman, made his profession­al debut as a cruiserwei­ght last month. Also returning to the ring is Baltimore native Tyrieshia “Lady Tyga” Douglas (13-1), the IBA bantamweig­ht, UBF World Female super flyweight, UBF flyweight and UBF bantamweig­ht champion. Her opponent is Helen Joseph (15-3-1) from Nigeria. As a special feature bout, Junior Olympics gold medalist Lorenzo “Truck” Simpson will step into the ring against Maurice Winslow. Simpson, 18, is the winner of six Ringside Boxing National Silver Gloves championsh­ips and the nephew of Hasim Rahman. Martin’s West is at 6817 Dogwood Road in Windsor Mill.
