Nationals: OF Bryce Harper left in the eighth inning against the Yankees after he was hit by a pitch for the second time. Harper was hit on the right elbow by a 90 mph pitch from CC Sabathia in the fifth inning and fell to the ground. He was struck on his left foot by an 89 mph slider from Dellin Betances in the eighth. ... 2B Daniel Murphy was activated before the game and made his season debut, batting fifth as the DH. Murphy, 33, missed the first 64 games while recovering from right knee surgery on Oct. 20.

Blue Jays: It’s likely to be more than a year between SS Troy Tulowitzki’s appearance­s in a major league game, but the injured star said he’s getting there. “I can honestly say for the first time in a while I feel like I’m headed in the right direction,” Tulowitzki said. Tulowitzki had surgery April 2 to remove bone spurs from his heels. He last appeared on July 28, 2017.

Tigers: Miguel Cabrera left in the third inning against the Twins with a left biceps tendon strain. He swung awkwardly at Jake Odorizzi’s slider and immediatel­y walked toward the Tigers dugout with his left arm hanging at his side.

Phillies: Aaron Nola struck out 10 in another dominant performanc­e and Scott Kingery hit a three-run homer in a 5-4 win over the Rockies. Nola (8-2) allowed one run in 6 innings, lowering his ERA to 2.27.

Yankees: The team will recall RHP Jonathan Loaisiga from Double-A Trenton to make his major league debut Thursday night against the Rays. Loaisiga, 23, is 3-1 with a 4.32 ERA in six starts at Double-A Trenton.

All-Star balloting: Red Sox OF Mookie Betts leads all major leaguers with 748,872 votes in the first update of AL All-Star voting. Joining Betts in the top three OF spots are the Angels’ Mike Trout and the Yankees’ Aaron Judge. Other leaders included Yankees C Gary Sanchez, White Sox 1B Jose Abreu, Astros 2B Jose Altuve, Indians 3B Jose Ramirez, Orioles SS Manny Machado and Red Sox DH J.D. Martinez.
