Salisbury players named Division III All-Americans

Salisbury seniors Allie Hynson (Mount de Sales) and Krissy Murphy (Westminste­r) were named to the first team, while senior Gianna Falcone was a second-team selection and junior Martha Hutzell (Centennial) was placed on the third team of the Intercolle­giate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Associatio­n Division III All-America teams. ... Washington College junior defender Madison Schutz (John Carroll) was named to the IWLCA Division III All-America third team. Schutz is the first defender in her team’s history to earn All-America honors. DIVISISION I: Navy’s Jenna Collins (River Hill) was named an IWLCA first-team All-American. .... Maryland senior Megan Whittle (McDonogh) and juniors Julia Braig (St. Paul’s) and Jen Giles (Mount Hebron) were named first-team AllAmerica­ns and junior Caroline Steele (Severn) was named to the second team. Terps sophomore Lizzie Colson (Marriotts Ridge) and junior Megan Taylor (Glenelg) were named to the third team. ... JUNIOR COLLEGE: Harford Community College had five players named to the first team of the All- Maryland JUCO team — Cidney Gray, Courtney Poole, Brookie Siebert (Defensive Player of the Year), Nina Urban and Rachel Wilson. Other first-team members included: Anne Arundel’s Alyssa Baronella-O’Toole (Player of the Year), Sofia Michael and Madeline Szanyi; CCBC-Essex’s Alexis Corbitt-Fennekohl; Howard’s Kelsey Scott and Brittany Wartman. Former NFL tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. has been arrested on charges of rape and other sex crimes onthedayhe­wastoappea­rincourton an unrelated burglary charge. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports sheriff’s deputies arrested Winslow on Thursday at his home in the San Diego suburb of Encinitas. The 34-year-old Winslow was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of kidnapping with intent to commit rape and single counts of forcible sodomy, oral copulation and indecent exposure. He’s free after posting $50,000 bail.

In a powerful video for the Players’ Tribune, Daniel Carcillo took the NHL and NHLPA to task, calling for better regulation and care for players who suffer traumatic brain injuries and saying the league is lying to players. Carcillo, who spent parts of nine seasons with the Coyotes, Flyers, Rangers, Kings, Blackhawks and Penguins, said that upon retirement, he was having headaches, problems sleeping and had an extreme sensitivit­y to light. And he makes no bones about what he thinks about the NHL. “The quality of life that repetitive traumatic brain injuries rob from you, I would give back all of my money, I would give back all the time,” Carcillo says.

Argentine player Federico Coria was banned for eight months and fined $10,000 for anti-corruption offenses. Six months of the ban and half of the fine were suspended on condition there were no further offenses by Coria, the brother of Guillermo Coria, a French Open finalist in 2004.
