Spirit to play NWSL game at United’s new Audi Field

The Washington Spirit will host the Portland Thorns in a National Women’s Soccer League game at Audi Field, D.C. United’s new stadium, on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 7:30 p.m. on ESPNEWS. The Spirit will also host the Orlando Pride next Saturday at 7 p.m. on ESPNEWS. INDOOR SOCCER: Mohawk Valley Garden CEO Rob Esche and Major Arena Soccer League commission­er Joshua Schaub, along with other officials, announced Wednesday that Utica will field a profession­al indoor soccer team — called Utica City Football Club, or FC for short — that will play home games at the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium beginning with the 2018-19 season this fall. The team — which relocates from Syracuse after seven seasons — will play in the MASL, which is the highest level of profession­al arena soccer. The league has 17 teams in the United States, Canada and Mexico, including the Blast. MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa., will host the Army-Navy Cup Through 2022. Keystone Sports and Entertainm­ent announced the rivalry will return to the venue via a contract extension for five additional seasons. This year’s matchup is set for Oct. 12. Kickoff time and broadcast informatio­n are to be determined. MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Salisbury senior defenseman Kyle Tucker was named Intercolle­giate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Associatio­n MidAtlanti­c All-Region Defensive Player of the Year. BASEBALL CAMP: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is hosting a Nike baseball camps July 8-11 on campus in Princess Anne for ages 9-18. Registrati­on is open for both overnight and extended day campers. New Hawks coach Brian Hollamon will lead the Nike camp that is managed by U.S. Sports Camps. The Senators suspended Randy Lee, the assistant general manager facing a harassment charge from an incident during the NHL’s pre-draft scouting combine. Lee is charged with second-degree harassment after allegedly making lewd comments and rubbing the shoulders of a 19-year-old male hotel shuttle driver in Buffalo, N.Y., on May 30. He has pleaded not guilty. ... The Blackhawks agreed to two-year contract extensions with F Vinnie Hinostroza and F John Hayden. ... Sonia Scurfield, the former Flames owner and only Canadian woman to have her name engraved on the Stanley Cup, has died. She was 89. She had cancer.

Roger Federer defeated Guido Pella 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the Stuttgart Open semifinals and set up a meeting with Nick Kyrgios. Kyrgios defeated Feliciano Lopez 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Federer can reclaim the No. 1 ranking from Rafael Nadal with a win on Saturday. ... Johanna Konta reached the semifinals after beating Dalila Jakupovic 6-4, 6-2 at the Nottingham Open. Konta next faces Donna Vekic, who beat Mona Barthel 7-5, 6-1.
