Valentino named Howard CC women’s lacrosse coach

Howard Community College named Joe Valentino women’s lacrosse coach. Before joining HCC, Valentino was the coach at The Academy of The Holy Cross girls’ junior varsity lacrosse team. He was also the coach and a volunteer assistant of the Rebels Lacrosse Club, as well as the offensive coordinato­r for St. Vincent Pallotti High in Laurel. WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Towson announced the signing of Kionna Jeter, who will be eligible to play for the Tigers beginning this fall. A 5-foot-5 guard from Spartanbur­g, S.C., Jeter played last season at Gulf Coast State in Panama City, Fla., where she averaged 19.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists. Jeter, a former three-star recruit, was the Gatorade South Carolina Girls Basketball Player of the Year and South Carolina Coaches Associatio­n AAAA Player of the Year as a junior in 2015. Jeter chose Towson over Auburn, Clemson, Texas Southern, Denver and Xavier. WOMEN’S COLLEGE GYMNASTICS: Former Maryland assistant coach J.J. Ferreira will return to the Terps staff. Ferreira spent the past six seasons as an assistant for Maryland. MAJOR LEAGUE LACROSSE: Florida Launch attackman Dylan Molloy was added to the MLL All- Stars roster for Thursday night’s All- Star Game against Team USA at Harvard Stadium in Boston. MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER: D.C. United hired Rodrigo Robles as director of South American scouting. Robles joins the staff from Chilean club O’Higgins FC. TRACK AND FIELD CAMP: Mount St. Mary’s will host a throws and pole vault camp from July 20-22 for high school athletes ages 14-18. The camp will offer specialize­d coaching, specific strength exercises, and video analysis in small group settings.
