Baltimore courses host match play tourney
Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation will continue its Classic Five Golf Tournament Series next Saturday with the Baltimore Match Play Championship. The Baltimore Match Play Championship will be conducted through July15. Aqualifier will be held at Clifton Park Golf Course next Saturday, with the low 31 players moving on to the match play portion. The qualifying round will determine the player’s position within the field. Following the qualifying round, rounds one and two will be played at Clifton Park Golf Course on July 8. Rounds three and four will be played at Mount Pleasant Golf Course on July 14. The finals will be held at Mount Pleasant Golf Course on July 15. The field for the qualifier will be limited to 132 eligible amateur golfers. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Tuesday. The entry fee is $90 per person, which includes greens fees and a cart for the entire event. JUNIOR GOLF TITLE: Lou Baker, 17, a St. Paul’s senior from Timonium and Baltimore Country Club, won the 97th Junior Amateur championship of the Maryland State Golf Association with a record-smashing 36-hole total of 135 at the Elkridge Club. Marshall Meisel, from the Chevy Chase Club, finished second, helped by a record-tying single-round total of 66 for a two-round total of 137.
