McKenna named O’s top minor leaguer in June

The Orioles named outfielder Ryan McKenna of the Double-A Bowie Baysox their Minor League Player of the Month for June. McKenna, who also won the award in May, hit .338/.466/ .535 in June with three home runs and eight RBIs. He earned a promotion from High-AFrederick to Bowie on June 21. Afourth-round pick in 2015 out of St. Thomas Aquinas High in New Hampshire, McKenna has 107 hits at Frederick and Bowie this season. Frederick left-hander Zac Lowther, 22, was named the Orioles’ Minor League Pitcher of the Month after going 3-0 with a 0.42 ERA in four starts. NBA: Mike Scott, an unrestrict­ed free agent, agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. Last season, his first with the Washington Wizards, Scott was a steady backup forward who averaged 8.8 points on 52.7 percent shooting, including 40.5 percent from 3-point range. Shortly after word circulated that Scott was leaving, the Wizards claimed second-year center Thomas Bryant. The 6-foot-10 Bryant, a second-round pick of the Utah Jazz in 2017, appeared in 15 NBA games and spent the majority of his rookie season in the GLeague after a draft-night trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant earned firstteam All-NBA G League status after averaging 19.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. TENNIS: Denis Kudla, an alumnus of the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, fell, 6-3, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, to No. 17 seed Lucas Pouille of France in the first round at Wimbledon. Kudla, who qualified in men’s singles for the first time at the All England Club, was coming off a loss to Roger Federer in the semifinals of the Gerry Weber Open, a grass-court tournament in Halle, Germany. — Redick averaged 17.1 points and shot 42 percent from 3-point range last season with the 76ers, when he made $23 million. ... The Hornets signed first-round draft pick Miles Bridges of Michigan State. Terms of Bridges’ deal were not disclosed. ... Warriors first-round draft pick Jacob Evans III signed his contract and is set to play in the summer league. The Warriors selected the 6-foot-6 G/F with the 28th overall pick out of Cincinnati. ... Veteran F Anthony Tolliver is joining the Timberwolv­es, returning to one of the nine NBA teams he has played for during his career. Tolliver is expected to sign a one-year contract for $5.75 million. ... Veteran GJose Calderon is joining his former coach in Detroit. Calderon agreed to a contract with the Pistons, who recently hired former Raptors coach Dwane Casey. ... Derrick Favors and the Jazz have come to terms on a two-year contract that could be worth up to $36 million.

The Flames signed F James Neal to a five-year, $28.75 million contract. Neal has topped 20 goals in each of his 10 NHL seasons, and was considered the top player left on the free-agent market a day after the signing period opened. Neal was selected by the Golden Knights in the expansion draft a year ago and scored 25 goals and 44 points in 71 games. ... The Sharks re-signed C Joe Thornton to a one-year contract and signed restricted free agent F Tomas Hertl to a four-year deal. ... The Predators signed F Zac Rinaldo to a one-year, two-way contract. His contract will be worth $650,000 at the NHL level and $300,000 when he’s in the AHL. Rinaldo, 28, had five goals, two assists and 44 penalty minutes in 53 games with the Coyotes last season.
