Gov. Larry Hogan has appointed Alice Sophocleus, the widow of Ted Sophocleus, a longtime Anne Arundel County delegate who died last month after an earlier surgery and neck injury, to serve out his term, the governor announced Monday. The Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee nominated her last week to finish her late husband’s term, which ends in November. Hogan’s Monday announcement makes her appointment official. “While we are still shocked and saddened by the news of Delegate Sophocleus’ sudden passing, it is our responsibility to make sure that all Marylanders are fully represented in our legislature,” Hogan said in a statement. “Alice Sophocleus is a dedicated member of the community she will be representing, and I am confident she will serve the constituents of District 32 well.” Four men were shot — three fatally — Monday across Baltimore, police said.
