District 43 voters got the new leader they craved

- Riann Eckel, Baltimore

Today, a people-powered campaign showed long-time political elites what will happen if they don’t stand with their constituents. Food & Water Action is celebrating alongside Del. Mary Washington in her victory for Maryland’s Democratic primary election for state senate in District 43 (“Mary Washington claims victory in Maryland Senate race against Joan Carter Conway,” July 6).

Mary’s longtime commitment to providing Baltimoreans with clean, affordable water, along with her support of a fracking ban and regulations on factory farms, make her the progressive champion truly dedicated to the people of District 43. Food & Water Action has long worked with Delegate Washington in her efforts to create a healthier, more just community for Baltimore residents.

The outcome of the primary election shows that Baltimoreans demand new, and enthusiastic leadership.
