Baltimore Sun

Insult to our veterans

- Richard Shannahan

The editorial, “Every vote does count" (July10), in The Baltimore Sun was absolutely brilliant and right on target! The fifth paragraph, about "voting is a sacred duty," was especially moving. I fervently believe and adhere to that concept, and that voting is an obligation.

I also agree that “low turnout is a national disgrace, an insult to those who have fought and died defending our freedom.” My father fought with the Marines across the Pacific in World War II and thankfully survived — including the Battle of Iwo Jima. Not far from his grave at Parkwood Cemetery are located the graves of two young brave American service members who did not survive the war. May they rest in eternal peace with our gratitude. Thank you again for the extremely important editorial.
