-

Maryland senior running back Ty Johnson and Navy junior quarterback Malcolm Perry were named Monday to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, given annually to the best player in the Football Bowl Subdivision. West Virginia senior wide receiver David Sills V, a former all-state player at Eastern Christian Academy in Elkton, was also named to the list. Johnson, a former Fort Hill standout, is the first Terp to make the list since Stefon Diggs in 2013 and 2014, and the first Terps running back since Da’Rel Scott in 2010. Johnson ranked eighth in the Big Ten with 875 rushing yards last season, leading Maryland. Perry started 12 games (nine at slot back, three at quarterback) last season, finishing second on the team in rushing with 1,182 yards on138 carries and 11 touchdowns. Sills was an All-Big 12 first-team selection in 2017 after finishing with 60 catches for 980 yards and tied for the national lead with 18 touchdowns. Semifinalists will be announced Oct. 29, and the top three finalists will be revealed Nov. 19, followed by the presentation of the winner in Atlantic City, N.J., on March 8. MORE: The Big Ten announced that third-year Maryland coach DJ Durkin will be joined by Derwin Gray, Taivon Jacobs and Darnell Savage Jr. at the league’s Media Days next week in Chicago. The Terps are scheduled to meet with the media Tuesday, the second day of the two-day event.
