Sorem named Maryland’s deputy athletic director

Ex-Towson U. administrator will also serve as CFO

Colleen Sorem has been named deputy athletic director at Maryland, new athletic director Damon Evans announced Monday.

Sorem, who came to Maryland from Towson as the department’s business manager in 2014, will oversee the day-today administration of the department and serve as its chief financial officer.

The responsibilities are similar to what Evans had before becoming acting athletic director last October when former athletic director Kevin Anderson went on a six-month sabbatical.

After Anderson resigned in April, Evans was named to the position on a permanent basis in late June.

“Colleen is a rising star in the collegiate sports industry and she is more than deserving of this promotion,” Evans said in a statement. “Colleen has done outstanding work since joining our staff at Maryland, demonstrating strong leadership qualities and a keen eye for business operations as well as a broad-based understanding of the world of intercollegiate athletics. I am confident that her innovative thinking and passion for Maryland will lead to great success in this role.”

Sorem was the senior associate athletic director for finance and operations at Towson University, where she renegotiated the apparel contract with Under Armour and served as the department’s liaison for the softball complex renovation, Towson Center locker room renovations and new SECU Arena.
