A 22-year-old man was arrested on gun and drug charges at his Northwest Baltimore home Thursday night after police said he pointed a semi-automatic rifle at neighbors, then barricaded himself inside for hours as a SWAT team surrounded the home.

Andre Turner of the 2900 block of Oakford Ave. in Edgecomb eventually surrendered and faces multiple gun- and drug-related charges after police found both in the home, officials said.

Awomanwhoanswered the phone at the home Friday declined to comment, and an attorney who represented Turner in a previous case did not respond to a voicemail left at his office.

A SWAT team was dispatched to the home as a precaution about 7:19 p.m. Thursday, after neighbors reported “during the course of an argument, an unknown man pointed a machine gun at them,” police said.

Two other people were inside the home at the time, but they came out and did not appear to have been held against their will, police said.

“After hours of negotiations, the suspect voluntarily came out of the home and surrendered to police,” Detective Jeremy Silbert, a police spokesman, said in a news release.

“Officers were able to deescalate the situation through time and conversation.”

A police search of the home turned up a semi-automatic rifle, three handguns, ammunition, body armor, heroin and marijuana, police said.

Turner was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior offense, police said.

He pleaded guilty in October to a first-degree assault charge in Baltimore County Circuit Court stemming from a June 2011 incident, court records show.

Several streets in Northwest Baltimore were closed to traffic Thursday night into Friday morning as police responded to the scene, police said.

No one was reported injured in the barricade, police said.

One man who asked not to be named for fear of his safety said he had not been allowed into his home at Oakford Avenue and Pall Mall Road for several hours during the standoff.

About a half dozen SWAT officers could be seen holding shields and other equipment Thursday night as they stood on the front porch. There was a helicopter overhead.
