Ex-Terp Confroy nominated for NCAA Woman of Year

Former Maryland basketball player Kristen Confroy has been selected as the Big Ten Conference nominee for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year award. Confroy is among 154 candidates across all three NCAA divisions (including 58 NCAA Division I students) nominated for this year’s honor, which has been presented annually since 1991 and recognizes the nation’s top senior female studentath­lete. Confroy, one of Maryland’s two Big Ten Medal of Honor recipients, graduated in May with her bachelor’s degree in biology and a concentrat­ion in neurobiolo­gy and physiology. WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: District of Columbia announced that forward Patricia Albert and center Alexis Taylor have transferre­d from Coppin State and guard Etalyia Vogt has transferre­d from Towson. The Sixers confirmed an ESPN report that they have hired former Duke and WNBA star Lindsey Harding as a full-time scout for the coming season. Harding, according to ESPN, becomes only the second full-time female scout for an NBA team.

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant’s visit with the Browns concluded late Friday morning, but conversati­ons between the two sides will continue, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. If the Browns are going to reach a deal with Bryant, it’s not expected to happen until early next week partly because other teams are interested. ... NFL Network reported that tests on Eagles QB Nick Foles’ strained shoulder confirmed the injury is minor. A source said the team doesn’t anticipate a long recovery. Foles was injured in the Eagles’ loss to the Patriots on Thursday night. ...
