Waller, White among eight signed to practice squad

-

The Ravens announced Sunday that they’ve signed eight practice squad players, all of whom spent the preseason with the team before being cut Saturday.

Tight end Darren Waller, wide receiver-returner Tim White and guard Nico Siragusa highlight the group, which also included undrafted rookie guard Randin Crecelius, undrafted rookie running backs Gus Edwards and De'Lance Turner, and undrafted rookie defensive end-linebacker Myles Humphrey. The Ravens have three other spots to fill.

The Ravens’ Christopher Ezeala, a fullback from the German Football League, does not count against the 10-player practice squad. All AFC North teams can carry an 11th practice squad member this season as part of the International Player Pathway program.

Waller was reinstated early last month after after a yearlong NFL suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, his second such violation. Though he impressed coach John Harbaugh with his athleticism and readiness in practice, the converted wide receiver had just one catch in the preseason and could not overcome the team’s more established tight ends.

White, who missed all of last season with a thumb injury, lost the returner battle to undrafted rookie Janarion Grant. White had three catches for a team-high 70 yards in a preseason win against the Miami Dolphins but was held without a catch in the Ravens’ next game, against the Washington Redskins.

Siragusa tore the ACL, MCL and PCL in his left knee last early in training camp last season. A 2017 fourth-round pick who was praised for his drive-blocking power as a San Diego State standout, he struggled to assert himself in the trenches throughout the preseason.

Over five games, Edwards led the Ravens in carries (53) and yards (174), while Turner had their longest play from scrimmage, a 65-yard scoring run against the Dolphins. — Jonas Shaffer
