Coppin State to open with eight basketball road games

Eight teams that played in postseason tournament­s, including five NCAA tournament qualifiers highlight the 2018-19 Coppin State men’s basketball schedule, which was released Tuesday morning. The Eagles will host one of those teams, UMBC, for their home opener Dec. 3, before also welcoming Tennessee State to the Physical Education Complex Arena on Dec. 9. Coppin opens up with eight straight road games, tipping off the season at Wisconsin on Nov. 6. Four days later, the Eagles will travel to Dayton four the first of four matchups that are part of the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis. WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Mount St. Mary's freshman Maddie Tchou has been named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week. Tchou scored her first two college goals to lead Mount St. Mary's past Howard, 2-1, Friday. MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Navy earned its first victory on Wednesday night with a 4-0 win over visiting Howard. Goalie Ian Bramblett recorded his first career shutout for the Midshipmen (1-3-1). COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY: Maryland senior goalkeeper Sarah Holliday, who made10 saves in a win over then third-ranked Duke on Sunday, was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. The thirdranke­d Terps are 5- 0. . . . Salisbury’s Emily Lemanski (Seton Keough) and Jillian Hughes swept the Capital Athletic Conference’s Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, respective­ly. WOMEN’SCOLLEGEVO­LLEYBALL: Loyola Maryland made just seven hitting errors Wednesday night and eased to a 25-6, 25-10, 25-19 victory over visiting Coppin State. The Greyhounds’ Ann Ernst led all players with 11 kills. Abby Hamilton, Haley Puddy and Alisah Cash each hadsix kills. —
