Bolton’s disdain for Palestinians, ICC

- Max Obuszewski, Baltimore

The cruelty of the Trump administration knows no bounds (“U.S. orders Palestinian office in D.C. to close,” Sept. 11). I thought we would never again have John Bolton inside the White House. Of course, I was wrong as President Donald Trump found in Mr. Bolton his alter ego. It seems Rudy Giuliani is no longer the official loose cannon.

Not only does Mr. Bolton slander the Palestinians, one of the most oppressed groups in the world, but then he attacks the International Criminal Court. He even ups the ante on ridiculousness by threatening ICC judges and prosecutors with prosecution.

Imagine what this does for international relationships. It remains unclear who has the most malice for humanity, President Trump or Mr. Bolton?

Anyone cognizant of the George W. Bush-Dick Cheney administration’s penchant for “enhanced interrogation” knows that members of the U.S. military, U.S. mercenaries and CIA operatives were involved in the illegal practice of torture. Has anyone in that administration been punished or prosecuted?

I am proud that the Palestinians asked the ICC to investigate Israeli human rights abuses and possible war crimes. And I am hoping that the ICC calls Mr. Bolton’s bluff and continues to investigate allegations of torture by U.S. forces. Finally, I am wishing and hoping that this nightmare comes to end sooner than later. Each day brings on more pain and anguish for anyone with a conscience.
