Three allowance races highlight Laurel card

Three $42,000 allowance races and a pair of $40,000 maiden special weight events highlight a 10-race program that marks the return of live racing to Laurel Park today. First race post time is 1:10 p.m. Seven juvenile maidens will go 5½ furlongs in Race 2, led by first-time starter Danz a Rebel, the slight 5-2 program favorite for trainer Cal Lynch. Simpson, narrowly beaten in his last two tries, tops a field of six maidens 3 and up set to travel six furlongs in Race 4. An entry-level allowance for 3-year-olds and up going 6 furlongs was split into two divisions, in Races 7 and 9, both of which attracted a field of seven. Nico Bree N Teej, third in the Star de Naskra Stakes on Aug. 18 at Laurel, tops the first division while Star de Naskra runner-up Onemoregreattime looms large in the second division. Race 8 is an optional claiming allowance for 2-year-old fillies, also at 6 furlongs, featuring the Lynch-trained Congrats Gal. The 2-5 morning-line favorite was a runaway 6¼-length winner of her debut June 10 at Laurel and since has run third in the Schuylerville (G3) at Saratoga and second as the favorite in the White Clay Creek Stakes at Delaware Park. the program’s first two National Championships, both the AIAW Championship in 1981 and the NCAA Championship in 1986, while reaching the National Championship nine times. In addition to serving as the women’s lacrosse coach at Maryland, Tyler was also the field hockey coach, accumulating a 143-88-26 record and winning the NCAA Championship in 1987. Tyler is the only Division1coach to win NCAAChampionships in two different sports. The class will be enshrined Nov. 15 in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
