Testaverde, Stover lead Ravens to third straight victory, 36-10

SEPT. 21, 1997: Vinny Testaverde passes for three touchdowns, Matt Stover kicks five field goals and the Ravens force five fumbles and recover four in a 36-10 victory over the Tennessee Oilers before 17,737 in Memphis. It’s Baltimore’s third straight win.
SEPT. 22, 1979: Five field goals by Dale Castro, a junior walk-on from SouthernAnne Arundel, lead undefeated Maryland past Mississippi State, 35-14, at Byrd Stadium. Castro tied an NCAA record with four field goals in the first half, including a 45-yarder.
SEPT. 21, 1974: Dennis Hresko scores two goals in the final 10 minutes to lead the undefeated University of Baltimore soccer team past Maryland, 3-2.
SEPT. 22, 1966: The Bullets acquire LeRoy Ellis, a lanky 6-foot-10 center, from the Los Angeles Lakers for forward Jim “Bad News” Barnes. Ellis will play four years in Baltimore, average more than 10 points and eight rebounds, and help the Bullets win the NBA Eastern Division in the 1968-69 season.
SEPT. 17, 1960: In a 22-7 victory at Boston College, Navy halfback Joe Bellino scores three touchdowns on a 3-yard run, a 32-yard reception and a 64-yard pass. The 5-foot-9 Bellino will win the Heisman MONDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS MLB Trophy.
SEPT. 21, 1958: In their final exhibition game, the Colts crush the New York Giants, 42-21, at the Kentucky State Fairgrounds in Louisville. On a fake field-goal attempt, holder Ray Brown throws a 16-yard touchdown pass to Gino Marchetti, alone in the end zone. Three months later, the Colts will defeat the Giants for the NFL championship.
SEPT. 22, 1946: An announced 51,580 see quarterback Sid Luckman lead the Chicago Bears past Sammy Baugh and the Washington Redskins. 20-14, in a preseason game at Municipal (later Memorial) Stadium.
SEPT. 17, 1920: With its 23rd consecutive victory, 20-11, over the Reading Marines Baltimore clinches its second straight International League pennant. It’s the 108th win for the Orioles, who bang out 27 hits — five by shortstop Joe Boley and four each by outfielders Otis Lawry, Merwin Jacobson and Bill Holden.
