Annapolis native Phipps signs deal with Bayhawks

Veteran goalie Brian Phipps signed a two-year deal Monday, committing to the Chesapeake Bayhawks through his 10th Major League Lacrosse season. Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto said Ichiro Suzuki will be in spring training with the club and hinted the veteran outfielder could be on the roster when the club opens the season in March with a pair of games against the A’s in Tokyo. Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher said he was just trying to get the attention of junior LB Tyrel Dodson when he grabbed the team co-captain’s face mask after Dodson was involved in a scuffle with Arkansas LB Dee Walker during Saturday’s game.
