Llewellyn, Caltabiano team to lift Loyola
Dons stay unbeaten in boys soccer; Severna Park edges Northeast in girls soccer
Dominic Caltabiano scored the gamewinner from 12 yards on an assist from Chase Llewellyn as No. 2 Loyola Blakefield won, 3-2, in overtime over No. 13 Archbishop Curley on Thursday.
The Dons stayed perfect improving to 11-0 overall and 10-0 in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference. Loyola beat No. 3 McDonogh by the same score, 3-2 in overtime, on Tuesday and will next face the Eagles Saturday. The Friars fell to 6-7, 6-6.
Curley took a 1-0 lead when Bryce Woodward scored from 12-yards out. Loyola tied the score on a penalty kick by Matt Lala. The Friars took a 2-1 lead with six minutes left in the second half. Loyola’s Luke Briggs scored the tying goal on an assist from Lala with two minutes left in regulation to force the overtime.
Michael Caulkins made nine saves for Curley and Pat Milmoe had three saves for the Dons.
NO. 4 C. MILTON WRIGHT 2, BEL AIR 0: Grayson Hichkad and Conner Appleby each scored a goal in the second half as the host Mustangs shut out the Bobcats. Zach Hetrick made five saves for C.M. Wright and Ben Cook had six saves for Bel Air.
NO. 8 GILMAN 2, MOUNT SAINT JOSEPH 0: The host Greyhounds (10-3-1, 7-2-1) got two goals in the first half from Tyler Martinez and Avery Merlo and shut out the Gaels (5-6-1, 5-6-1).
SEVERN 2, CONCORDIA PREP 1: Nathan Gauthier netted a pair of second-half goals to rally the Admirals (11-3, 10-1 MIAA B Conference) past the host Saints (8-4-1, 5-4-1).
Nick Angelino provided an assist for Severn (11-3).
JOHN CARROLL 2, ARCHBISHOP SPALDING 1: Alex Flores scored for the Cavaliers but the host Patriots (3-12, 1-10 MIAA A Conference) took the game off a successful penalty kick with less than two minutes to play. Spalding fell to 6-7, 3-7.
KEYSCHOOL5, ST. JOHN’S-CATHOLIC PREP1: Zack Glime scored a trio of goals as the host Obezags beat the Vikings (5-4, 5-3). Drew Loughlin scored twice and Marshall Tanz, Daniel Fagbohunka and Will Edwards each recorded an assist and Will Edwards made three saves for Key (9-0-1, 7-0 MIAA C Conference).
SEVERNA PARK 7, NORTHEAST 0: Camden Handwerger, Colin Wolfe, Gordie Bernlohr, Kyle Jefferds, Zach Plummer, Declan Byrne and Jackson Merrill each scored a goal as the Falcons downed the Eagles (2-7-1). Nate Carey, Evan Blamphin and Gus Bachmann had an assist apiece and Braden Mondor and Ben McLay combined for two saves to preserve the shutout for Severna Park (9-3-1).
SOUTHERN 2, NORTH COUNTY 0: Matt Smith scored a goal and grabbed an assist in the Bulldogs’ rain-shortened victory over the Knights (4-4-1). Ronaldo Gutierrez scored the other goal for Southern (6-4-2). The game was called due to inclement weather with11minutes remaining.
Girls soccer
NO. 10 SEVERNA PARK 1, NORTHEAST 0: Lauren Campbell scored off an assist from Chase Campbell as the visiting Falcons beat the Eagles.
Katie Byrd made three saves for Severna Park (11-1). Sydney Bell stopped 13 shots for Northeast (3-2-2)
SOUTHERN 1, NORTH COUNTY 0: Sarah Reidlin scored on a penalty kick for the host Bulldogs in their victory over the Knights. Sarah Ward made one save to preserve the shutout for Southern (6-2-2).
Field hockey
CARVER A&T 6, OWINGS MILLS 0: Freshmen Brianna Berman and Julianna Yachimowicz each scored twice and the host Wildcats (9-2) shut out the Eagles (0-6).
SEVERN AT PATTERSON MILL, PPD.: The game between the Admirals (6-3) and the Huskies (6-5) was postponed because of the threat of bad weather. There is not yet a date for a makeup game.
Girls volleyball
HARFORD TECH 3, EDGEWOOD 0: Jen McMillion had four aces and five kills to lead the host Cobras (10-3) past the Rams (2-8). Harford Tech won, 25-14, 25-20, 25-15.
FREDERICK FORCE 3, GLENELG COUNTRY 2: The host Dragons (4-6) had 36 kills and 18 service aces, but fell to Frederick. Frederick won, 25-23, 9-25, 25-19, 19-25, 15-10. Joy Hursey had 10 kills and both Maddie McClendon and Sydni Williams had nine kills each.
