Old Mill’s wrestlers breezed through the first 10 bouts of Thursday night’s match with host Severna Park, losing only by forfeit in two early bouts, to notch a 49-24 victory that served as a testament to just how good the defending Anne Arundel County and region champions might be.

Trailing 12-6 after fielding no competitor at 113 and 120 pounds, the 10th-ranked Patriots ran off 10 straight wins, winning six by forfeit. Severna Park, down 43-12, won three of the final four bouts.

Leading the early dominance by Old Mill were first-period pins by Trinity Killip at 106 (15 seconds), Damion Mansapit at 132 (30 seconds) and Colby Smith at 160 (20 seconds). Malik Right at 126 and Caron Tull at 145 also earned pins during the stretch.

Mansapit raised his season record to 14-0 with nine pins and is 73-12 for his career. Winning a close match was the Patriots’ other returning county champion, Ryheam Tull, at 138 pounds, where he edged Severna Park’s Colin Shadowens. Tull came from a 1-0 deficit after two periods to win, scoring on an escape and takedown

Severna Park’s Ron Schlipp stopped Old Mill’s string of wins, pinning Old Mill’s Levi Garren in the 182-pound class. The two wrestlers were locked in a scoreless match before a slick move by Schlipp compromised Garren and resulted in a pin.

One of the Falcons’ other two wins on the mat came when Carson Gotimer defeated Jack Davis, 4-3, in a double-overtime match. Davis led 3-2 late in the match, but was penalized for an illegal hold, tying the score and sending it into overtime.

Connor Bowes closed the match with an exciting 4-2, earning the winning takedown with 20 seconds left in the match.
