Baltimore, Harford CC earn top JUCO seeds

The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference announced the seeding for its men’s and women’s conference basketball tournament­s, which run Thursday through Sunday at Hagerstown Community College. Baltimore City Community College (men) and Harford Community College (women) are the two No. 1 seeds. The women’s bracket will begin play on Thursday, as No. 3 Chesapeake College takes on No. 6 Montgomery College at noon, followed by No. 2 Baltimore City against No. 7 Hagerstown at 2 p.m. Day one of the tournament continues with No. 4 Frederick Community College versus No. 5 CCBCCatons­ville at 4 p.m. and concludes with No. 1 Harford against No. 8 College of Southern Maryland at 6 p.m. The men tipoff on Friday with No. 3 Harford meeting No. 6 Garrett at noon. No. 2 Allegany battles No. 7 Frederick at 2 p.m., while No. 4 Prince George’s Community College takes on Cecil at 4 p.m. Top seeded Baltimore City ends the day with a 6 p.m. tip against No. 8 Southern Maryland. The Maryland Juco Tournament began in 1974. Prior to that year, the conference was known as the Tri-State Athletic Conference, which ran from 1958 until 1973. Hagerstown won the first conference tournament in 1958. ... Maryland JuCo selected Howard’s Sabreen Muslim (City) and Harford’s Jaedon Willis (McDonogh) as its Athletes of the Month for January. Muslim averaged 22 points and 17 rebounds a game, while Willis averaged 20.3 points a game and made 51.1 percent of his field goal attempts.

MEN’S LACROSSE: Maryland senior faceoff specialist Austin Henningsen was named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week after a career performanc­e when he won15 of 15 faceoffs for the Terps in their 10-9 win over Richmond on Saturday. ... Loyola Maryland seniors Pat Spencer (Boys’ Latin) and Jacob Stover (McDonogh) were each named to the United States Intercolle­giate Lacrosse Associatio­n Team of the Week. Spencer, who was the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, was on the goal-scoring or assisting ends of seven of the 17 goals, scoring fiveand assisting two in Saturday’s victory over Virginia. Stover, the conference’s Goalkeeper of the Week, maded 18 saves. ... Towson senior faceoff specialist Alex Woodall (St. Mary’s) was named the Colonial Athletic Associatio­n Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week. In Towson’s season-opening 17-8 victory over No. 7 Johns Hopkins, Woodall dominated the faceoff spot, winning 21-of-28 draws and collecting 17 ground balls. Woodall added one goal and two assists in the win, all coming directly after faceoff wins. WOMEN’S LACROSSE: Georgetown senior Francesca Whitehurst ( Roland Park) was named the Big East Midfielder of the Week for efforts in the Hoyas’ season-opening win at Saint Joseph’s,
