Maryland stops Florida, 17-12, for 2nd women’s lacrosse win

Jen Giles (Mount Hebron), Caroline Steele (Severn) and Kali Hartshorn each scored four goals to lead No. 2 Maryland (2-0) to a 17-12 victory over No. 4 Florida (1-1). The visiting Terps built a 7-5 lead in the first half. Lindsey Ronbeck had a game-high eight goals and Grace Haus(Notre DamePrep) had a hat trick for the Gators.

PRO WOMEN’S SOCCER: The Washington Spirit signed Amy Harrison and agreed to loan terms with Chloe Logarzo from Sydney FC ahead of the National Women’s Soccer League season, pending completion of internatio­nal paperwork. Logarzo has earned 29 caps with the Australian Women’s National Team and netted six goals.

SOFTBALL: Senior Maddie Bennett (Mount Hebron) and junior Rachel Butler were been named captains of the Washington College softball team. TRACK & FIELD: The Navy track and field team claimed three of the six Patriot League M-FAthletic Indoor Track & Field weekly awards. Navy junior Regine Tugade was selected as the M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Week, senior teammate Stefano Pineda earned the Male Field Athlete of the Week, with freshman teammate Charles Crispi earning his second consecutiv­e Male Rookie of the Week. ... Salisbury senior Jamie Farley (Pasadena resident) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Farley earned an individual second-place finish in the 400-meter dash at the Eastern Shore Combined Events Meet, finishing in 59.00 seconds. —
